Please tell me,
When will you open your eyes?
Is it when,
Nothing is left to be seen?
Mango Tree
-Eternal Flame-
There she stood in front of me,
The high and mighty mango tree.
A symbol of courage, strength and sweetness,
A humble life that seemed to be endless.
Since I was blessed with life she’s there,
Tons of sweet she always bears,
For us she seems to always care,
To us those sweets she always shares.
When I was five, in her branch I climb,
Her leaves, they swayed, she doesn’t mind.
I played with her flowers and they are so pretty,
Dancing with the wind, they are so naughty.
From school I ran to her company,
She offered me shade, we had harmony.
I closed my eyes and wished good night,
We are best of pals, am I right?
“It can’t be compared, the beauty you posses,”
That’s what I said, when you had those nests.
Crowns of glory, those nests seemed to be,
Oh look – those birds are happy! They sing merrily!
Those moments we shared that I can reminisce,
I fear for them to be just memories.
Men have been foolish; they’ve grown so mad,
It made Mother Nature feel so bad.
Men, by greed, have all been eaten,
To money, surely, they all have fallen.
Completely devoured by nonstop hunger,
Hunger for what? Hunger for power.
Your kinsmen were killed, by those men we feared,
Now their home is nothing, but an empty field.
Those men with axes, they’ve shown no mercy,
Those trees are gone, for eternity.
What more to come? What more to go?
Surely, there’s one thing I know.
With men like this, who knows no pity?
Then it’s a goodbye, to my mango tree.
